Wildebeest Migration
The best time to see the Great Wildebeest Migration is from July to October.
In July, the herd leaves the arid plains of the Serengeti in search of greener pasture and water, making it the best time to watch the dramatic Mara River Crossings.
In August, most of the wildebeest and their migration companions will have reached the Masai Mara National Reserve. They’re being hunted down by a very eager hunting party of big cats.
In September, life is good in the vast Masai Mara; the herds enjoy relative peace and quiet on the plains. This is the perfect time of the year for an epic safari and game drive.
In October, the rain begins to fall, and by November, the herd starts heading back to the Serengeti, and so the never-ending cycle of the Great Migration continues.
Mara Triangle
The Mara Triangle is a unique part of the Masai Mara National Reserve, stretching across 510 square kilometers. It sits next to Tanzania’s Serengeti in the southwest, the Mara River in the east, and the Oldoinyio Escarpment, also called the Oloololo Escarpment, in the northwest. This area is famous for its stunning scenery and rich wildlife. Compared to other parts of the reserve, the Mara Triangle is quieter and offers visitors a more private safari, with plenty of animals to see.
The Mara Triangle is home to the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino.
